Credito Cooperativo Area Pratese is the only locally-owned inserted bank in the important economic area of province of Prato. They currently have 7 agencies, ATMs 8, 65 employees and over 1,200 members. Thanks to their development and their local roots, they can consider themselves one of the principal banks of reference for families, businesses and institutions in their area. Although an independent company, they are part of the system of mutual banks and rural banks for over 120 years working on national territory, and the Tuscan Federation of Cooperative Banks. History
The history of Credito Cooperativo Association of Prato area can’t be separated from what was the history and development of the movement of Cooperative Banks, which have their roots in the second half of the 800 when, initially in Germany, began to rise the first cooperatives banking. The movement soon spread to Italy, where - to cope with the hardship of the rural and urban proletariat which, because of the indifference of the ruling classes and wear, had no chance of access to credit - local communities formed the first rural banks, with a strong link with the territory and a coherent set of ethical principles and solidarity. The very deep and mutual understanding among the members of the community and formed their joint commitment, on the one hand, the context in which people identify creditworthy and, secondly, the guarantee of a careful use of money received on loan . A considerable impetus to the development of the movement was in 1891 encyclical Rerum Novarum of Pope Leo XIII, who urged Catholics to social action and solidarity to overcome such forms of isolation of the poor. Tell them to just arose the “League of Cooperatives” as its first agency of all the cooperation and at the end of the century there were already more than 900 rural banks, 775 of them Catholic. It is in this historical period and social 6 November 1913 the 17 founding members, representatives of the local Catholic community, they decided to found the Rural Bank of Deposits and Loans of Carmignano, which had as its first headquarters, the local canonical adjoining the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Since then, our Bank, which later became the Credito Cooperativo Association of Prato Area, has grown significantly, along with all the movement of the Credito Cooperativo, to become one of the leading bank in the city of Prato and the entire industrial district and the province of urban lawn extends to Empoli.
